CBSE’s Initiative for Student Mental Well-Being: A Successful Workshop at VIS

On 12th February 2025, Venkateshwar International School (VIS) conducted a historic CBSE workshop committed to the enhancement of students' mental well-being and health. Held on VIS's new campus, the workshop brought together teachers from CBSE Delhi/NCR schools for an experience-provoking and life-altering learning session. The workshop covered valuable sessions presented by eminent mental health professionals of the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), Dr. Aparna Goyal, Dr. Shipra Singh, and Dr. Shahzadi Malhotra, providing expert views on crisis intervention, early detection of mental health, and psychological first aid. It underscored the growing priority given to well-being in terms of mental within the school, especially in an era when the resilience of emotion counts as much, if not more, than performing academically.

What is Mental Health and Why is it Important?

A sound mind is essential for overall well-being, influencing thoughts, emotions, and behavior. For students, it enhances academic performance, social interactions, relationships, and resilience to stress. The workshop urged the significance of creating a fit, emotionally protected environment at the school level for students to shine.

In the workshop, three essential points of mental wellness were brought into focus:

  1. Early Detection of Mental Health Problems – It is important to recognize the early warning signs of mental distress. Early intervention makes support more effective and prevents mental health problems from complicating further. Having the ability to identify signs like anxiety, depression, or stress makes educators capable of taking early action and offering support to students in need.
  2. Crisis Intervention and Response Techniques – During an emotional crisis, an instant and right response can be of crucial importance. Educators learned psychological first aid (PFA) and other crisis intervention strategies. Real-life strategies assist teachers and counselors in offering effective support to distressed students and directing them toward the right professional care when necessary.
  3. Building Emotional Resilience – The workshop focused on developing resilience among the students. This will enable them to withstand adversities, adapt to changes, and face challenges. Different programs designed to assist the development of stress management skills in the students will allow the school to prepare them to cope with adverse situations in a healthy manner.

VIS: A Beacon for Student Mental Health and Holistic Development

Venkateshwar International School has always paid special attention to the development of students in an all-around manner. For Venkateshwar International School, education extends beyond textbooks, recognizing emotional well-being as a vital part of personal growth. VIS has always taken the lead in providing an ambiance that supports not just intellectual development but also emotional development.

The school facilities also reflect this emphasis, with wellness rooms set aside for students' health. These rooms are intended to give students a peaceful and supportive space where they can vent their emotions or step away from academic stress. All are part of VIS's master plan to put students' mental health on par with their achievement.

Anti-Bullying Initiatives and Age-Appropriate Programs

One of the fundamental aspects of VIS's function is its Anti-Bullying Squad, an active team aimed at preventing and responding to bullying so that every student feels safe and respected. As bullying is a huge contributor to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, this program is vital in promoting mental health. In addition, VIS's age-specific programs target the constantly changing emotional needs of students as they progress through their different academic stages. Dealing with the period from the earliest years to the latter, these programs bestow adaptive coping mechanisms, emotional regulation skills, and techniques of resilience, empowering the students to face both the challenges that schools initiate and external pressures.

Why VIS Was Chosen to Host the CBSE Workshop

VIS's reputation as a progressive institution dedicated to the all-around growth of its students made it the ideal institution to host this landmark CBSE workshop. The school's ongoing initiative to incorporate mental well-being into the very fabric of its pedagogy has established it as a pioneer in progressive education.

Key differentiators that contributed to VIS being selected include:

  1. A firm commitment to the well-being of students, with regular workshops, skill development sessions, and counseling initiatives.
  2. Future-Ready facilities, such as wellness areas and advanced learning spaces, foster emotional and physical well-being.
  3. A community-based approach that engages not just the students but also the teachers and parents in the process of developing a caring and inclusive learning environment.

Shaping the Future: VIS’s Ongoing Commitment to Student Well-Being

The success of the CBSE Workshop on Student Mental Health and Well-Being signals the dawn of a broader movement at VIS. The school is unwavering in its commitment to advocating for student mental health, equipping educators with the proper tools, and creating new standards in forward-thinking education.

Venkateshwar International School recommends that all become lifelong learners of mental health literacy. With the right knowledge, assistance, and prevention, our students can lead successful and effective lives both in and out of the classroom.
